Kingdom of Derge

Powerful Kham kingdom ruled by the Gar clan from the town of Degé; a leading religious and economic center of eastern Tibet, home to the great Derge Printing House (Parkhang, founded 1729), that expanded under Tenpa Tsering before falling to Qing/Chinese control in 1908.

Ceded to China by King Dorje Sengge in 1908 during Zhao Erfeng's frontier campaign; briefly restored by Tibet in 1913 and finally dissolved under PRC land reform in the 1950s.
