An Iranian-descended Hellenistic kingdom in the high plateau of central Anatolia, ruled by the Ariarathid dynasty before passing through the Ariobarzanid and Archelaid lines, serving as a Roman client state and buffer against Parthia.

The last king Archelaus died in 17 CE (having been summoned to Rome by Tiberius); Emperor Tiberius annexed Cappadocia as a Roman province the same year.
