Dominant Upper Burma kingdom after Pagan's collapse, long rival of Hanthawaddy in the Forty Years' War, absorbed by Toungoo's Bayinnaung in 1555.
Conquered by Toungoo king Bayinnaung on 22 January 1555; the capital Ava fell to southern forces and the kingdom ceased to exist, with its last king Sithu Kyawhtin sent to Pegu and Bayinnaung's brother installed as viceroy.
