KingdomOceania

A short-lived unified Fijian monarchy (1871-1874) under Ratu Seru Epenisa Cakobau — the only formal kingdom of Fiji — which ceded sovereignty to the British Crown in 1874.

Ceded to the United Kingdom on 10 October 1874 when King Cakobau and senior Fijian chiefs signed the Deed of Cession, handing sovereignty to Queen Victoria; Fiji became a British Crown Colony administered by Governor Sir Hercules Robinson and subsequently Sir Arthur Gordon.
