A Central Asian khanate in the historic Khorezm region that persisted from the 16th century until Soviet abolition in 1920, surviving as both an independent state and a Russian protectorate.

Conquered and made a Russian protectorate in 1873 CE following the Khivan Campaign, when Russian forces under General von Kaufman defeated Muhammad Rahim Khan II; it was abolished as the Khorezm People's Soviet Republic in 1920 CE.
