The northern Khalkha Mongols, descendants of Dayan Khan's youngest son Geresenje, organized into the Tüsheet, Setsen and Zasagtu khanates (the Sain Noyon added later); dominant power of Outer Mongolia until the Dzungar invasion drove them to submit to the Qing in 1691.
Overrun by Galdan Boshugtu's Dzungars; the Tüsheet, Zasagtu and Setsen khans pledged fealty to the Kangxi Emperor at the Dolonnor (Dolon Nor) Assembly in 1691, incorporating Khalkha/Outer Mongolia into the Qing banner system.
