First great Nubian kingdom, a powerful rival of Egypt centered on the city of Kerma above the Third Cataract.

The Kingdom of Kerma was conquered by the Egyptian New Kingdom under Pharaoh Thutmose I c. 1504 BCE, who sacked the city of Kerma; the region was subsequently administered as the Egyptian province of Kush under a Viceroy, ending Kerma as an independent polity.
