The southeastern-most Kazakh horde of the Seven Rivers (Zhetysu/Semirechye) and middle Syr Darya; the weakest of the three as a unified khanate, it long fell under Dzungar then Kokandi pressure before Russian abolition, and was the last jüz whose khanship was formally ended.
Khanate abolished / absorbed by the Russian Empire in 1848 (last, after the Middle and Junior hordes); much of the Senior Jüz had earlier come under Kokandi and then Russian control in Semirechye. Not an ending of the Kazakh people.
Traces the Great Horde's late and partial incorporation (Kokand then Russia) and the 1848 end of its khanship.
Documents Kokand's expansion over the Senior Jüz towns of the Syr Darya and Semirechye (University of Pittsburgh Press).
