The Kingdom of Katsina was conquered during the Fulani jihad when Umaru Dallaji captured Katsina town in 1806 and was named the first emir, making it a vassal of the Sokoto Caliphate; the emirate was then taken by the British in 1903 and the traditional Katsina Emirate continues ceremonially within Katsina State, Nigeria.
