A Shia Muslim dynasty of Daylamite origin, related to the Buyids, that held western Persia (Jibal and Kurdistan) from about 1008; after losing wider power around 1051 its rulers continued as Seljuk-subordinate atabegs (governors) of Isfahan, Yazd, and Abarkuh.
Reduced to local governorships under Seljuk suzerainty after c. 1051; the line at Yazd continued in a diminished capacity to around 1141.
Standard genealogical/chronological reference with a dedicated entry on the Kakuyids; no dedicated monograph on this minor dynasty verifies on Open Library, so this is used as the polity-relevant fallback.
