A short-lived sister republic proclaimed at Laguna in Santa Catarina province on 29 July 1839 by Riograndense rebel forces under General David Canabarro and Giuseppe Garibaldi, extending the Ragamuffin War north out of Rio Grande do Sul.
Imperial Brazilian forces destroyed the republic's naval squadron and retook Laguna on 15 November 1839, ending the republic less than four months after its proclamation.
No dedicated English-language monograph on the Juliana Republic was found in Open Library search, so the same book covers this campaign in depth, not a generic survey of unrelated ground.
