Joseon

1392 – 1897
KingdomAsia

Joseon was Korea's longest-lived dynasty, adopting Neo-Confucianism as the state ideology, developing the Hangul alphabet, and surviving both Japanese invasion (1592–98) and Manchu conquest (1636) before becoming a nominally independent empire in its final years.

Joseon was transformed into the Korean Empire in 1897 CE when King Gojong proclaimed imperial status; the Korean Empire was then formally annexed by Japan in 1910, ending Korean sovereignty.
