Japanese-occupied Dutch East Indies

Japanese occupation of the Netherlands East Indies after the Dutch capitulation on Java, 8-9 March 1942 — split between the 16th Army (Java), 25th Army (Sumatra) and the Navy (Borneo and the eastern archipelago).

Ended with Japan's surrender in August 1945; Sukarno and Hatta proclaimed Indonesian independence on 17 August 1945, two days after the surrender announcement.
