Japanese occupation of the four British territories of northern Borneo — Sarawak, Brunei, Labuan and North Borneo — conquered December 1941 to January 1942 and run as a single occupied territory (Kita Boruneo).
Australian forces landed at Tarakan, Brunei Bay and Balikpapan in mid-1945; the Japanese 37th Army surrendered at Labuan on 10 September 1945 and a British Military Administration took over until April 1946.
