Jalayirid Sultanate

1335 – 1432
SultanateAsia

A Mongol Jalayir-tribe dynasty that seized Iraq and western Iran from the wreck of the Ilkhanate in the 1330s, becoming a major Persianate patron of the arts (painting, manuscript illumination) even as it lost ground to Timur's conquests and the rival Qara Qoyunlu Turkomans.

Broken by Timur's invasions from the 1390s; a brief revival in southern Iraq/Khuzistan after Timur's 1405 death was finally extinguished by the Qara Qoyunlu in 1432.
