Jaintia Kingdom

A kingdom of the Pnar (Jaintia) people straddling the Jaintia Hills of present-day Meghalaya and the adjoining plains of the Sylhet region, ruled by the matrilineal Syiem Sutnga line. It combined a hill heartland with wet-rice plains and was annexed by the British East India Company in 1835 after a dispute over human sacrifice of British subjects.
