Italian Social Republic (Republic of Salò)

German puppet state led by a reinstalled Mussolini in Nazi-occupied northern Italy after the September 1943 armistice split the country; fought a parallel Italian civil war against the Resistance and the Allied-backed Kingdom of the South.

Collapsed with the German surrender in Italy and Mussolini's execution in late April 1945; territory reverted to the Kingdom of Italy / post-war Italian state.
