Italian Governorate of Montenegro

1941 – 1944
ColonyEurope

Italy's military-governed occupation zone in partitioned Yugoslavia, roughly the old Kingdom of Montenegro plus part of the Sandzak; Italian plans for a quasi-independent Montenegrin kingdom were shelved after the 13 July 1941 uprising, and a formal governorate under military rule was instituted in October 1941.

Taken over by German forces after the Italian armistice of September 1943; the Germans withdrew in December 1944 and Montenegro passed to Tito's Yugoslavia (Podgorica liberated 19 December 1944).
