Isin (First Dynasty)

The dominant city-state of Mesopotamia immediately after the fall of the Third Dynasty of Ur, Isin maintained Sumerian scribal and religious traditions and competed fiercely with Larsa for control of the region.

Conquered by the city-state of Larsa under king Rim-Sin I c. 1793 BCE, ending the First Dynasty of Isin's century-long dominance over southern Mesopotamia; the wider Isin-Larsa period ended with Hammurabi of Babylon's conquest of Larsa in 1763 BCE.
