Hermunduri

7 BC – 300
CultureEurope

Germanic tribe that moved between the Danube, Main, and Elbe river regions (modern Germany/Czechia); Cassius Dio records that in 7 BC the Romans resettled the Hermunduri in former Marcomannic territory. They held an unusually favorable trading relationship with Rome, including inland market access most border peoples lacked.

Attested through the 3rd century AD per the Wikipedia summary; a speculative later link to the Thuringii (from the 5th century) is noted by scholars but not confirmed here as direct continuity.
