Hasmonean Judea (Maccabean Kingdom)

Jewish theocratic monarchy founded by Simon Thassi after the Maccabean Revolt, ruling Judea and surrounding territories as an independent Hasmonean state until Rome installed Herod the Great.

Ended 37 BCE when Roman forces backing Herod the Great captured Jerusalem and deposed the last Hasmonean king Antigonus II Mattathias; the dynasty itself was then supplanted by the Herodian line.
