Hamazi

2500 BC – 2200 BC
KingdomAsia

A little-known ancient kingdom or city-state that briefly appears in the Sumerian King List and in diplomatic correspondence with Lagash, occupying a contested territory between Mesopotamia and the Zagros highlands.

Conquered by Enshakushanna of Uruk c. 2400 BCE, who claimed dominion over Hamazi along with Sumer and Akkad; Hamazi disappears from historical records after the Early Dynastic III period and was presumably absorbed into successive Mesopotamian empires.
