CultureAsia

A Bronze Age Zagros-based people who overthrew the Akkadian Empire and established a short-lived ruling dynasty over Sumer before being expelled by Utu-hengal of Uruk.

Expelled from Mesopotamia c. 2050 BCE when Sumerian king Utu-hengal of Uruk defeated the last Gutian king Tirigan in battle; Tirigan fled but was captured and likely executed, ending Gutian hegemony; the region was subsequently unified under the Third Dynasty of Ur.
