Gija Joseon (Kija Chosŏn)

1120 BC – 194 BC
KingdomAsia

A semi-legendary Korean kingdom allegedly founded by the Chinese sage Jizi (Kija) after the fall of the Shang dynasty; historically disputed, with modern Korean scholarship largely questioning its existence as a separate polity from Gojoseon.

Gija Joseon was overthrown around 194 BCE when the Chinese refugee Wiman (Wei Man), originally from the state of Yan, staged a coup against the last Gija Joseon king Jun and founded Wiman Joseon in its place; King Jun fled south to the Jin polity.
