Kamerun (German Cameroon)

A German Empire protectorate in Central Africa established in 1884, extending well beyond modern Cameroon's borders into parts of Gabon, the Congo, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Nigeria at its territorial peak (following the 1911 Neukamerun agreement with France).

Conquered by British, French, and Belgian forces during the Kamerun campaign of World War I (1914-1916); formally stripped from Germany by the 1919 Treaty of Versailles and divided into League of Nations mandates administered by Britain (British Cameroons) and France (French Cameroon).
