Kingdom of Gelgel

1380 – 1686
Sovereign stateAsia

The paramount Hindu kingdom of Bali after the Majapahit conquest, ruled by the Dewa Agung line from its court at Gelgel near the south coast. At its 16th-century height under Dalem Baturenggong it claimed overlordship as far as Lombok, Sumbawa and the eastern tip of Java, and was the guardian of Balinese-Javanese high culture. Its unity broke down in the later 17th century, ending with the fall of Gelgel in 1686.

Collapsed in 1686 when the usurper Anglurah Agung was overthrown; the Dewa Agung paramountcy moved north to a new court at Klungkung.
