Ganja Khanate

A khanate around the city of Ganja governed by the Ziyadoglu Qajars after Nader Shah's death; its last ruler Javad Khan died defending the city when Russian forces under Tsitsianov stormed it in January 1804.

Conquered by Russia: General Tsitsianov stormed Ganja in January 1804, killing Javad Khan; the khanate was abolished and the city renamed Elizavetpol, its loss to Iran confirmed by the Treaty of Gulistan (1813).
