KingdomEurope

Medieval Rus' successor state in what is now western Ukraine, formed c.1199 when Roman the Great united the principalities of Galicia and Volhynia; crowned a kingdom in 1253 under Daniel of Galicia in a failed bid for papal-backed anti-Mongol alliance.

Absorbed by the Kingdom of Poland in 1349 following Polish conquest; Volhynia passed to the Grand Duchy of Lithuania by 1452, while Galicia became the Ruthenian Voivodeship of Poland in 1434.
