The earliest recorded Indianized kingdom of mainland Southeast Asia, dominating the lower Mekong delta through maritime trade and Hindu-Buddhist court culture.

Conquered and absorbed by its former vassal Chenla (Zhenla) around 550–628 CE, with Bhavavarman I beginning the annexation c. 550 CE and his successor Ishanavarman completing the conquest of Funan's territories by 612–628 CE.
