A Chalcolithic-to-early-Bronze-Age culture within the wider Corded Ware complex, flourishing in the forests of Russia. Developed on the northeastern edge of the Middle Dnieper culture, likely via a mass migration of Corded Ware peoples from Central Europe; expanded east into the Volosovo culture's territory and developed copper mining in the western Urals, giving rise to the distinct Balanovo culture from c. 2300 BC.
Contributed to the formation of the Abashevo culture.
Discusses the eastern forest-zone offshoots of Corded Ware, including Fatyanovo–Balanovo.
