Emirate of Brakna

Hassani Arab emirate of southern Mauritania, a Banu Hassan sister-polity to Trarza; the two allied to defeat Nasr ad-Din in the Char Bouba war (1673-77), then fought each other for influence over Waalo and Futa Toro (1720-22); Emir Hamet Mokhtar allied with Abdul Kader's Futa Toro revolution in the 1770s.

Absorbed into French West Africa alongside the other Mauritanian emirates during the early-1900s French pacification of the region (Coppolani campaigns); exact dissolution year not found in a verifiable source and should be treated as approximate.
