Turkic atabeg dynasty (Atabegs of Azerbaijan) founded by Shams al-Din Eldiguz, a former Seljuk slave-commander who became the power behind the puppet Seljuk sultans of Iraq and ruled Azerbaijan, Arran, and much of western Iran (the Jibal) in their name.
Weakened by repeated wars with the Kingdom of Georgia and internal succession disputes, the last Eldiguzid ruler was overthrown by the Khwarazmian Empire in 1225.
