Eastern Wu controlled the Yangtze River delta and southern China, developing the region's agricultural potential and maritime trade while resisting northern domination.

Eastern Wu was conquered by the Jin dynasty in 280 CE when Jin forces captured the Wu capital Jianye and the last Wu emperor Sun Hao surrendered on 1 May 280 CE, completing the Jin reunification of China and ending the Three Kingdoms period.
