A Northern Dynasty formed when the Northern Wei split in 534; the Tuoba-Xianbei imperial line continued as a figurehead at Ye while the Gao family (later Northern Qi) held real power.
Deposed in 550 when Gao Yang forced the abdication of the last Eastern Wei emperor and founded the Northern Qi.
