Established when Pulakeshin II of Badami appointed his brother Kubja Vishnuvardhana governor of Vengi in 624 CE; developed into an independent Telugu-culture kingdom over five centuries.

Merged into the Chola sphere via marriage alliance and conquest by 1075, with the Vengi line continuing as a Chola vassal/associated house (the union underlies the later "Chalukya Chola" dynasty).
