Dorset / Tuniit

800 BC – 1300
Native nationNorth America

The last Paleo-Inuit — soapstone-lamp makers and snow-house dwellers without dogs or bows, remembered by the Inuit as the giant 'Tuniit' who were here first.

Vanished between about AD 1000 and 1500 as the dog-sledding, whale-hunting Thule swept east; the Sadlermiut of Southampton Island were long thought their last survivors, though 2015 genetics ties the Sadlermiut to the Thule.
