PrincipalityEurope

Byzantine appanage covering much of the Peloponnese; last major Byzantine territory to fall, conquered by Mehmed II in 1460 after Constantinople's fall.

Conquered by Ottoman Sultan Mehmed II in 1460–1461 CE: the capital Mistras surrendered on 29 May 1460, Despot Demetrios submitted to Mehmed, and the last Byzantine holdout at Salmeniko fell in July 1461, ending the Despotate and incorporating the Peloponnese into the Ottoman Empire as the Sanjak of Morea.
