A Byzantine successor state founded by Michael Komnenos Doukas after the Fourth Crusade, which briefly controlled much of northwestern Greece and Albania and rivaled the Empire of Nicaea before declining under Angevin and Ottoman pressure.

Conquered piecemeal by the Ottoman Empire under successive campaigns, with the last stronghold of Vonitsa falling in 1479 under the final despot Leonardo III Tocco, who fled into exile.
