Sultanate of Dawaro

1200 – 1559
SultanateAfrica

Muslim principality of Ethiopia's Arsi highlands, east of Hadiya, conquered and grouped as a tributary province of the Ethiopian Empire by Emperor Amda Seyon I after crushing a rebellion by its ruler Haydara in the late 1320s.

Remained a contested Ethiopian frontier province through the 15th century (fought over in the Ethiopian-Adal wars); overrun and absorbed during the Oromo migrations of the mid-16th century (by the 1550s, during Emperor Gelawdewos's reign), after which it ceased to exist as a distinct polity.
