Dene 'people who go around by boat' of the central plateau, named Carrier for the widows who carried their husbands' ashes.

Pulled into the fur trade by Simon Fraser's New Caledonia posts (1805-07); today the many Dakelh nations, from Lheidli T'enneh at Prince George to the Carrier Sekani council, persist across north-central BC.
