A Norman state comprising Sicily, Malta and part of Calabria, carved out during the Norman conquest of Sicily (1061-1091) from the Muslim Emirate of Sicily; founded by Roger I of Hauteville as a county nominally subordinate to his brother Robert Guiscard, Duke of Apulia.

United with the Duchy of Apulia and Calabria and the other Hauteville conquests in 1130, when Roger II was crowned King of Sicily, founding the Kingdom of Sicily.
