The anarcho-syndicalist administration of Republican-held eastern Aragon during the Spanish Civil War — the "Consejo de Aragon", Wikidata's "Anarcho-communist administrative entity". Established 6 October 1936 under the CNT president Joaquin Ascaso (cousin of Francisco Ascaso), with its seat at Fraga and then, from December 1936, at Caspe, it governed the hundreds of collectivized villages behind the Aragon front that the confederal militia columns out of Catalonia had held since the summer of 1936.
Dissolved by the Second Spanish Republic: on 4 August 1937 the Defence Minister Indalecio Prieto ordered the army in, and Enrique Lister's 11th Division occupied Caspe and officially disbanded the Council on 10 August 1937, breaking up the collectives. Eastern Aragon remained Republican until the Nationalist Aragon Offensive of spring 1938 reached the Mediterranean.
The most exhaustive study of Republican-zone politics, the anarchist revolution and its counterrevolutionary reversal — the CNT collectives in Catalonia and Aragon and the suppression of the Council of Aragon. (ISBN verified.)
