9 – 250
CultureEurope

Celtic-speaking people (also 'Gotini') of the northern Carpathian basin, in the mountainous regions of present-day Slovakia. Recorded by Tacitus, Ptolemy, and Cassius Dio, and in Latin inscriptions, from the reign of Augustus to the mid-3rd century AD. Subject to the Quadi and noted as ironworkers.

After the Marcomannic Wars, part of the Cotini were forcibly resettled within Pannonia by Rome, where their descendants are attested in inscriptions as 'cives Cotini'.
