Federation of the southern Cook Islands (Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Mangaia, Atiu, Mauke, Mitiaro) under British protection, formed when the Kingdom of Rarotonga renamed itself in 1893; governed by a local parliament whose laws required approval from a British Resident.
Transferred to New Zealand administration in 1901 (became the Cook Islands territory).
