An Aymara chiefdom/kingdom on the northwest Titicaca plateau claiming descent from Tiwanaku and speaking Puquina; one of the largest and most powerful of the post-Tiwanaku Aymara señoríos, organized around defensive hilltop forts (pukaras) rather than a single unified state.
Conquered by the Inca emperor Pachacuti in the mid-15th century; the Inca later named the wider Qullasuyu quarter of Tawantinsuyu after this chiefdom.
