Colhuacan (Culhuacan)

Toltec-descended altepetl on the southern shore of Lake Texcoco whose royal prestige — the first Nahua city to hold the title tlatoani — legitimized the Mexica royal line through Acamapichtli's descent from its king Coxcoxtli (r. 1281-1307).

Subdued by Azcapotzalco (with Mexica troops) in 1377 and absorbed into the Tepanec, then Aztec, tributary system; fell with the rest of the Valley of Mexico to Cortés in 1521.
