Micronesian-speaking people indigenous to Chuuk Lagoon (formerly Truk Lagoon) in the Caroline Islands; today the largest ethnic group in the Federated States of Micronesia. The lagoon's earliest known archaeological settlements (Fefen and Weno islands) date to the 1st-2nd century BC, with densely populated settlement not documented as 'widespread' until the 14th century AD.
Not an ending: the Chuukese remain the largest people of the Federated States of Micronesia. The map hands off to the colonial Micronesias and, from 1986, the FSM.
Multi-volume documentary history of Micronesia, including the Caroline Islands / Chuuk Lagoon region, spanning pre-contact through colonial eras.
