Not an ending: never conquered in the field, the Chickasaw were forced out of their Mississippi prairie towns by state jurisdiction and the 1832 Treaty of Pontotoc Creek. After years of negotiating compensation and buying land from the Choctaw, the first parties crossed the Mississippi from Memphis on July 4, 1837. Their descendants are the Chickasaw Nation, headquartered at Ada, Oklahoma, on a reservation covering some 7,648 square miles of south-central Oklahoma.
