Founded by Mularaja, who supplanted the Chavda dynasty c. 940 CE; reached its zenith under Jayasimha Siddharaja and Kumarapala in the 12th century, ruling Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan from Anahilavada.
Weakened after Kumarapala's death by feudatory revolts and invasions from the Paramaras, Ghurids and Yadavas; power was usurped by the Vaghela line (former Chaulukya generals) in the 1240s.
