Germanic coastal tribe between the Ems and Elbe rivers (modern Lower Saxony), living partly on artificial terp mounds; expanded to the River Ems around 58 AD by displacing the Ampsivarii, gaining a border with the Frisians.
Absorbed into the emerging Saxon confederation by the pre-Migration Period (c. 300 AD), per the shared Elbe-Germanic material culture the Chauci belonged to.
